Here we are offering a very rare one time production repro M1940 ushanka,
What makes this cap so special is that it was made from an authentic vintage Soviet Military veshmeshok (soldiers rucksack)... These military issue rucksacks were made with the same type, heavy duty cotton flannel that the original ushankas were made with. And they have the classic WWII olive drab color with vintage patina that no modern material can replicate. This Soviet Army material gives this cap a beautiful authentic appearance like no other reproduction will!
Note: These rucksacks are not exactly cheap, so the starting price reflects that.
The dimensions are such that you can make only one ushanka from a single bag.
Next up is the fur, Which is vintage faux fur from the 1950's in dark khaki color, We removed this from an old fashioned trench coat - it is exactly like the original fur - especially being it was made in the same era. This fur has been in our inventory for over a year and finally we were able to use the right materials to do it justice! This is the only ushanka being made for sale with it, Like with the Soviet rucksacks, you can only make 2 ushankas from a coat. The other one we made is being kept in our collection (It's that good)
The third highlight of this ushanka is the inner lining, We used natural cotton wool blend batting (quite pricey but worth it)  which is the same exact material the Soviets lined the originals with (this is very different from modern poly batting)... Super warm and thick. We used 6 layers in the lining, and the flap portions also have a layer added, Flaps also have suede fleece bonded to the rear side of the fur making them water resistant and very dense!
Further specs -
Liner is made with 100% heavy duty cotton in field gray color, padded and quilted using specific wartime quilting pattern. Thread used is thick olive color quilt thread, which we found to be a perfect match based off of several 1940 dated originals that we have studied in hand from the Samoilovoy factory. The middle "diamond" shape on the crown has 2 extra layers cutout to shape and inserted to ensure the crown is reinforced (that's 7 layers total)
Inner crown is also hemmed using a 2mm seam allowance which is the standard for wartime ushankas, This is a technique rarely seen anymore but it ensures the crown will never come unattached, It will certainly always be rock solid in place.
Ties are 100% cotton in olive drab color based on an original, ends are sealed with a few dots of super glue to ensure no fraying

Over all a very rare ushanka for reenactors, display or to simply have an exact replica to wear in winter. All ushankas sold here are one of a kind hats, We do not mass produce these (due to scarcity of materials). The materials are hand selected in very small quantities to only match those of the time period. This is why each one at our shop is unique to it's self. You will be getting something that you won't find anywhere else, no matter how hard you look. We have made and sold over 150 reproduction WWII ushankas since 2016 and continue to make only the most accurate repros on todays market.
